Both individuals must appear in person before the clerk and complete a” Worksheet for Preparing Intention of Marriage,” which takes about 30-45 minutes. 

** Note: The form requires information about your parents’ last name at date of birth and their birthplace. 

Both individuals must present valid photo IDs i.e., Driver license, state issued ID, Passport (exception for military personnel who cannot appear in person). 

If either individual was previously married, a copy of the final divorce decree, annulment, civil union dissolution decree or certified copy of the former spouse’s death certificate must be presented to the clerk. 

The license is valid in all New Hampshire towns. 

The license is good for 90 days after being issued and costs $50. 

No waiting period.  You can be married the same day the license is issued. 

Certificate can be obtained from the clerk’s office of the town where the license was issued by completing an Application for a Certified Copy of a Vital Record.  The cost is $15 for the first copy and $10 for each additional copy. 

Yes, it is the couple’s responsibility to present the marriage license and proper IDs to the Justice of the Peace on the day of the ceremony. 

No parental permission is required if the individuals are at least 18 years of age. 

A female 13-17 years of age and a male 14-17 years of age require parental permission.  Age waivers are not permitted for same sex marriages. 

Marriage not permitted if a female is younger than 13 years of age or a male is younger than 14 years of age or if the individuals are related by blood, e.g., first cousins or in any more direct lineagem description
